World Orthoptic Day is held annually on the first Monday in June. This year’s celebration fell on Monday 5th June and was celebrated around Australia with luncheons and high teas.
This year marks the 50th Anniversary of the International Orthoptic Association (IOA). The IOA was formed in 1967 and now has 12,000 members from 22 countries worldwide.
Orthoptists are specially trained practitioners who work in close association with Ophthalmologists, Paediatricians, Neurologists and Geriatricians with a common goal of good visual function for all. Orthoptists work in private practice, in Ophthalmology practices, hospitals, rehabilitation units, low vision clinics, mobility training, and of course – Laser Vision clinics!
Every 4 years Orthoptists from around the worl meet at the International Orthoptic Congress. The next Congress will be held in 2020 in Liverpool, UK.
At Laser Vision Clinic Central Coast, we have 2 highly experienced Orthoptists who assess patient suitability for laser vision correction, provide patient counselling, prepare treatment plans, and work in the operating theatre managing the laser equipment during laser eye surgery.
Happy World Orthoptic Day to our lovely Orthoptists!
