Changes announced in the May 2013 Federal budget may affect your ability to claim Laser Eye Surgery as a tax rebate. Make sure you book your surgery before 30th June 2013 to ensure you receive your tax rebate.
For tax year 2012/13 – Individuals earning less than $84000, or couples earning less than $168000 can claim 20% tax rebate for out of pocket medical expenses over $2120. For taxpayers earning over the above threshold, they can claim 10% of expenses over $5000.
The May 2013 Federal Government budget announcement: The medical expenses tax offset is being phased out. If you are eligible to claim medical expenses in 2012/13 financial year, you will be able to continue to claim for the 2013/14 and 2014/15 financial years. Those not eligible to claim in 2012/2013, will not be able to claim tax rebate for medical expenses in 2013/14, or 2014/15. Find out more
